The labiaplasty procedure

Labiaplasty can be conducted with local or general anesthesia depending on the patient. Dr Haydon prefers to use IV conscious sedation to make the patient more comfortable. The procedure takes less than 30 minutes. Once the anesthesia has taken effect, one of two techniques can be performed.

The most common type of labiaplasty is the edge resection technique, also called the trim technique. The procedure removes the extra skin from the labia and then sews the edges in two separate layers with sutures that dissolve.

The central wedge resection is the next most widely used procedure. The procedure removes skin from the thickest part of the labia and preserves the natural border region of the vulva. This is more commonly done in women with darker pigment.

Who is it for?

The main goal for getting a labiaplasty procedure is the reduction of the size of the labia minora in order to reduce stretched skin beyond the hair-bearing labia majora, or outer labia. Labia minora can get stretched during childbirth, but in some cases, it is present as early as the teen years.

Women who seek labiaplasty may be experiencing painful or uncomfortable friction during activities like working out or sexual intercourse. Tight clothing can also cause chafing in the region. Labiaplasty reduces elongation of the labia, thereby avoiding twisting and turning when wearing swimwear or bikinis.

A labiaplasty is also performed for aesthetic reasons. Elongated labia can cause self-consciousness in intimate situations. Additionally, when one side of the labia is longer than the other, it creates undesirable asymmetries. In some tight clothing, the excess can be seen through the material, making the woman very self-conscious.

Recovery after labiaplasty

The recovery period is minimal and is performed as an outpatient procedure. Minor temporary swelling may be observed for the first week or so. It is not associated with a lot of pain and swelling like many women think.

Doctors advise refraining from sexual intercourse or any penetration for a period of 6 weeks. Tampons can be used, but there is a risk of disrupting the suture line. Regular hygiene care is advised, as is the application of antibiotic ointment for a period of 2 weeks.

The chance of complications is very minimal. A follow-up consultation is done within the week of surgery and then a few weeks after the procedure with Dr. Haydon to ensure that healing is going as expected.

diVa laser vaginal rejuvenation

diVa is a state-of-the-art way to reduce dryness, address vaginal laxity, enhance sensitivity, and treat stress incontinence. It is an ideal option for women who are older or have given birth. It is done in our SkinCare Clinic with only topical anesthesia. Once the area is numb, the procedure only takes 10 minutes.

This non-invasive treatment does not require any incisions. diVa administers fractional laser energy to the vaginal tissues, heating the layers of the vaginal wall. The heat encourages tightening, thickening, and deep rejuvenation. This makes sexual intercourse more pleasurable. It is frequently combined with PRP injections to the clitoris to heighten sexual satisfaction with more intense orgasms. These injections are also done just beneath the urethra to reduce incontinence in mild/moderate cases.

diVa laser vaginal rejuvenation is a very quick and convenient procedure, and only topical anesthesia is necessary.

Dr Haydon and his staff are top shelf. I had made appointments with other doctors and decided on Dr. Haydon because of his bedside manner, the post op pictures, the 3d Vector Imagery, the fact that the surgical center was in the building was also a plus. Everything was fully explained and my he exceeded my expectations. Never did I feel pushed into anything, or ever too insecure to voice my thoughts and opinions. He and his staff make you feel like family even months after the surgery. I can’t say enough about Dr Haydon, his staff, and the Skin Care Clinic that I still go to every 3-4 months.
